The AI field is rapidly advancing with new capabilities in different models appearing almost weekly. We also learn to use existing models better and their upper limits are yet to be discovered.

Businesses face a critical decision: should they just adopt the latest versions of available models or develop proprietary models?

Take Klarna, for instance, which has excelled in AI-driven customer service. Yet, with OpenAI introducing strong alternatives, should Klarna open-source its model to benefit from community-driven enhancements and maintenance?

This ongoing dilemma requires companies to be proactive and adaptable. Companies should focus on what are the most value creating applications that are crucial for competitive advantage, that require investments in developing own capabilities? What can be done with ever improving generally available models? And how to support both of these scenarios?

One constant in this evolving scenario is the value of high-quality data. Investing in DataOps is essential, whether you’re enhancing existing models or creating your own.
